History: Tarod was Bella's third Brawn, and she got him fresh out of training, unlike her previous two Brawns. Her first Brawn was close to retirement when he was temporarily assigned to her. The mission they were on was quickly completed and he retired. Her second Brawn, Autris, was with her for most of her career. However, on their last mission together, he was killed, leaving Bella alone. Then came Tarod.

History -Tarod had successfully trained as a Brawn for the FSP Scout service. Shortly after graduating from training, he won over Shell person Bella, to become her third Brawn. However, their partnership was to be but short lived. The pair was sent on a mission, and only Tarod would come back from it unscathed. Bella's ship, and the shell which sheltered her withered body, was completely destroyed, killing her in the process. However, more than just Bella and Tarod were affected by the mission. Tarod's wife and infant daughter were also along. His wife, Jalodra, would be killed. However, his tiny daughter, Acela, would be crippled for life, and end up becoming a Shell person. Because of this, the FSP's Scout service would end up paying Tarod a hefty settlement, which would permit him to buy out his contract from the Scout Service.
With his life irrevocably changed, Tarod was left a massive sum of money and nothing to do. He ended up taking an offer extended to him by the FSP military to be part of a pilot program on a long lost colony recently rediscovered. And so Tarod came to Pern with the hope of becoming a Dragonrider.
