Naming Conventions for Human Characters

Post by SyberJedi »

There are a couple of different naming conventions when it comes to naming those on Pern-

1.) Names of those who are born in the Weyrs are usually given names that are derived from the names of their parents. (Example- Brownrider A'ren, and Weyrwoman Raeda have a daughter, who is named Araena, which is derived from her parents' names.)

2.) Those who hail from either the Holds, or Crafthalls do not always follow that custom. Parents usually choose the names of their children, and they are not always derived as a combination of their parents names. (Example- Petiron, and Merelan have a son named Robinton.)

3.) Pernese do not tend to have surnames. Only those who are wandering traders tend to have surnames, and usually the surnames are the same as the name of their train. (Example- Jayge Lilcamp)
"But Lord, during the hardest trials of my life, why was there only one set of footprints?"

"Because," said the Lord, "Sandpeople always ride single-file to hide their numbers." -unknown

Naming conventions for those not born on Pern.

1.) Characters who come from other planets, besides Pern, will always have a personal name and a surname. Most FSP citizens will usually have a single surname. (example- Tarod Kurtsen)

2.) Characters who come from families that are First Families usually will have a double surname. (Example- Tial Rondymense-Bradshaw)
"But Lord, during the hardest trials of my life, why was there only one set of footprints?"

"Because," said the Lord, "Sandpeople always ride single-file to hide their numbers." -unknown
